Raised Home & Green Building Demonstration Project
Workshops and seminars will be held at the Going Up, Going Green site this spring. Please contact Russell Richardson by phone at 504-443-4464 ext. 239 or by email at rrichardson@sfpa.org for information on training event dates. Three new Louisiana-style homes are being constructed to the National Green Building Standard created by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the International Code Council (ICC). This educational design effort is called "Going Up, Going Green." Each home is designed and built as an example of one of three levels of the Green Building Standard and energy efficiency. The homes also demonstrate best practices for raised wood floor foundations, a popular architectural style in Louisiana and much of the coastal southeastern United States. Currently, there is no prescriptive code for pier-and-beam foundations in the current International Residence Council (IRC). The Going Up, Going Green project will demonstrate cost and safety factors that may be used to develop uniform codes for the construction of homes on piers. These "field classrooms" provide unique opportunities for training programs for the construction industry and other groups. Who are the Partners? Why are these organizations sponsoring the Raised Home and Green Building Demonstration Project? ![]() What can I expect to see at the Demonstration Project? These three homes provide a field classroom, offering unique learning opportunities. This educational center will help create an understanding of how to achieve greater energy and resource efficiency through a raised floor home.
