This 5,800 square-foot custom home in suburban Dallas is a showcase for wood products. The complex design of this Old World style custom home and the high cost of concrete led to a decision to construct a raised floor foundation system. Once the piers are in place, Southern Pine glulam beams support ACQ-treated engineered floor trusses, connected to a kneewall system also built of treated Southern Pine. Underfloor installation of electrical and mechanical systems is simplified with the raised floor design in combination with the open-web trusses. This elaborate home also contains Southern Pine finger-jointed wall studs, headers, ceiling joists, and second-story floor trusses.
